The Story behind ‘Us’
How We Met
High School Sweethearts
Kyle and I have been dating since our senior year of highschool, I was 16 and he was 17. So that makes us highschool sweethearts. I never really sought out a long-term relationship as a senior in highschool but the universe works in mysterious ways.
Of course I had a ‘friend group’ and it wasn’t until senior year that Kyle, and some other guys, joined our gang. As seniors we did all the things like go to parties (sorry dad), go to town to have dinner, and hangout. Kyle and I were both in the same seminar class, but honestly we never spoke to each other until senior year.
I’m sure you can guess, but we started becoming really good friends. He became a best friend to me. Growing up when I was younger, in different states, I always tended to hangout with boys more. So of course I quickly found a friend whom I didn’t have to worry about cattiness or drama with- that was Kyle.
Highschool was so much fun together because I was on the dance team, and Kyle played drums in band. So we performed together a couple times, something I’m proud to say we’ve done together. Kyle is extremely passionate about music, and played in a rock band before we moved to Thailand. I was passionate about dance, growing up in a dance studio my whole life.
October of that year, 2012, we started *officially* dating. Of course I wasn’t sure where our relationship would head, and honestly didn’t think that anyone could put up with me for more than a month. I’m pretty needy especially when it comes to food, but that’s why I love Kyle. He always makes sure I have alll the food I love.
So that’s where it all started for us- high school. In our tiny small town in Kansas, I met a boy who I now call husband.
After High School
I didn’t really have a concrete plan after graduation but I knew I would go to college and live at home. If Kyle and I hadn’t started dating then I honestly don’t think I would’ve done all the things we’ve accomplished as individuals and together- like Moving Abroad.
Right after highschool we both attended the same university and both lived from home, working part-time jobs. Our relationship worked because we our best friends first, and it’s still that way.
In 2014, after being together 1 year and a half we decided that we would visit my family in Thailand with my brother, now that we were both 18.
So since all this we have lived together for most of our relationship both in our own apartments and with our parents. Got 2 doggies, and traveled often.
In 2014/2015 we both decided that sometime in the near future we would plan on living in Thailand.

We had always discussed marriage, and knew it would happen but there was no pressure or rush to do so. We practically already were since we lived together, paid bills together and raised our fur-babies together.

By my surprise July 31st of 2016 Kyle proposed to me! I’ll be honest in saying I was quite surprised and nonetheless unprepared hah!
The Proposal Story
It was the day after one of my best friends wedding, in which I was a bridesmaid. It was also our dog Milo’s birthday and we had talked about taking the dogs to the park or lake.
We woke up that morning, and of course I was grumpy and tired. Kyle was all excited to take the dogs to the lake, and I wasn’t having it. He told me to wear a dress, and at the time I guess I didn’t think anything of it. So of course I opted for leggings!
Once we got to the lake, we grabbed the dogs, Kyle grabbed his camera and I grabbed my dill pickle sunflower seeds. Woops! (Kansas girls love their sunflower seeds ya’ll)
We went over to a spot that is ‘Asian’ as he describes because of the architecture of the roof. We came here a few times with Roxie when she was a puppy.
Then, all of a sudden he says ‘I got the dogs new collars’ so I’m like okay… and he hands me Milo’s and I’m like alright… lol. Then he says ‘look at the tag’ which read ‘Mom will you marry dad?’ At the moment I had butterflies in my tummy and it kind of felt like time stopped for a second. Corny I know, but really true.
I could tell he was nervous, and all I could think was ‘REALLY?’ He got down on his knee said my name and asked me to mary him. He says I cried, maybe I did I don’t remember and of course I said yes.
After he put the ring on my finger, he gave me Roxie’s collar which said ‘YES!’ Then I had to ask of course ‘you asked my dad right?’ Haha!
One of his good friends and coworkers popped out of the bushes, as he asked them to take pictures of it all. Honestly, I couldn’t have been more surprised and happy in that moment.
I felt bad for 1) bringing sunflower seeds and 2) being grumpy that morning. The fact that he incorporated our fur-babies made it perfect.
Kyle actually only had the engagement ring for 2 days because he couldn’t contain his excitement. I’m so shocked that he was so sneaky and went out and bought a ring!
So that my friends is the story of “us”. I always say “we” a lot when I write my posts. So there you have it- Kyle and I.
Kyle truly is my best friend first, and then my partner second. I think that’s why we’re so happy and have a successful relationship. I’m not saying our relationship doesn’t have it’s downfalls and bad moments, because everyones does. We’ve watched each other grow up from adolescent teens to the people we are today. We both say that we wouldn’t be where we are today, hadn’t it been for the other.
We are both old souls living in our twenties, we didn’t live the traditional or normal college lifestyle because we knew we wanted more. We both worked full-time jobs, switched to online schools- to save up money to live abroad and travel.
